Car Insurance Audi (Car Insurance). Much safer car? Hypothetical situation?Much safer car? Hypothetical situation? Hypothetically, if you outfitted a consumer car like a rally car wouldn't you have much better chances of surviving most crashes? Those cars have roll cages, 5 point harnesses, and seats that protect your neck and I've seen those cars crash hard and the driver come out fine. Most of the stuff on a rally car is impractical for your everyday driver, but if companies really wanted to save lives wouldn't they add those features? You forgot to mention special fuel cells and Nomex clothing, suspension mods for greater control and better tires. All of these things are impractical for everyday use and cost TONS of money. Research the cost of a rally car...even its most basic components such as the roll cage and see what I am talking about. It would be cheaper to provide much better mandatory driver training and make inattentive driving a capital crime to make the roads safer. If people spent more time driving their cars instead of doing everything from drinking, to texting to changing clothes, more lives would be saved. How about designing a car that won't start or run by detecting if the driver is over the legal limit just by breathing in front of the steering wheel. If Mercedes can design a car that can tell if you are falling asleep, why not? the 5 point belts are a great idea, you stay in the one spot and can't get thrown around. however. because you are in so tight you can't reach anything. putting the car from park to drive would even be a stretch. you couldn't change the radio, adjust the Temperature. if wearing seat belts became that hard for just a drive to get bread or milk people just wouldn't use them. when you add in a roll bar you add weight, more weight means more fuel, more fuel means more running costs. higher running costs aren't going to sell a car. No. Adding those features to all new cars would cost lives, not save lives. Almost no one could afford a new car with those features, so most drivers would continue using old cars that do not have those features, and do not have many of the safety features that new cars have, such as air bags, anti-lock brakes, etc., and are much less safe than new cars. Having safer new cars sitting in a dealership, unsold, would not improve safety. Replacing dangerous old cars with the somewhat safer new cars that are manufactured now and are affordable does improve safety. Making new cars too expensive and forcing everyone who cannot afford one to drive a less safe old car would cost lives. Auto parts : Strobe Light Kit Acura 1995 . Audi . How to Steam Clean the Engine of a 1997 Infiniti TruckInfiniti had made several high-end, luxury SUVs over the years, including the QX-56 as well as the FX crossover. One of the first ones though was the QX4, which was introduced in 1996. While you may not have to look at the engine in your QX4 very often (or ever, if someone else maintains it), this is an aspect of your vehicle that should be regularly cleaned. Not only does a clean engine bay look better but it will potentially help your Infiniti run cooler and make it easier to detect leaks and other issues. A steam cleaner can usually be rented locally so that you can steam clean your SUV's engine yourself. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Steam cleaner Degreaser Cleaner (Simple Green) Rags Wire brush Cellophane wrap Step by Step : 1 Open the hood of your Infiniti. The first step before beginning to steam clean your Infiniti's motor is to protect the sensitive electrical connectors, sensors and any wiring harnesses. These are usually protected pretty well from the factory since rain enters the engine bay when driving in the rain. But since you will be directing water and degreaser directly at the engine, this needs to done. Wrap cellophane wrap around any connectors or wiring harnesses located on either side of the engine. If you want make sure they stay put during the cleaning process, use rubber bands or tape. 2 Spray degreaser onto the motor, the inner fender wells, firewall and any other visible parts like the air intake, etc. The motors on Infiniti SUVs are pretty large, so there may not be much that is visible besides the engine. Use a citrus based degreaser, which will be more mild than some of the stronger degreasers. Let the degreaser soak in for a few minutes. If there are areas where oil and dirt has collected (which is unlikely if your Infiniti has been well-maintained) use a wire brush to dislodge the dirt and oil in these areas. 3 Steam clean the engine bay with the steam cleaner according to the steam cleaner's directions. You will be using some type of cleaner in the steam cleaner (Simple Green, etc.) which will be heated and sprayed onto the engine bay in the same way that a pressure washer is used. Try to avoid directing the cleaner directly at the sensitive electrical components and sensors that you protected with the cellophane. 4 Dry the engine bay after it has been steam cleaned. If you have access to an air compressor, compressed air is an effective method to dry the engine out. After you have dried the engine, wipe it down with a clean, dry, lint-free rag. If you don't have a blow dryer, dry the engine bay with rags. Finish off the detailing process by spraying plastic dressing (Armor All, etc) on any plastic and rubber parts. Apply a layer of wax to the walls of the engine bay to protect the paint's shine.
Audi . Steam Cleaning a Car EngineSteam cleaning an engine can be more than an aesthetic exercise. Oil and grease that sticks to the engine attracts dirt, which can insulate the engine block and cause overheating, and might catch fire if the exhaust or emissions system experience an overheat. A clean engine also allows for easier maintenance, helps in the detection of leaks and potential problems but caution is advised. Rent a Cleaner While steam cleaning is an effective way to clean an engine, don't even think about farming the job out to a local shop. Modern engines have a great number of sensors and sensitive electrical equipment that cause serious problems if the cleaning is done improperly. The best steam cleaners are powered by propane gas, which both runs the engine and provides a source of heat. Though rental fees might be a bit on the steep side, you may be able to offset costs splitting it with a few friends or neighbors and having everyone over to steam clean on the same day. Preparation If steam cleaning has one major drawback, it's that the same high-temperature steam that removes gunk and grime will insinuate itself into your electronics and ruin them. Before one drop of water touches your engine, you are going to need to insulate all of its electrical components. One way do do so is to wrap packing cellophane around your electrical connectors, sensors and wiring harnesses, and secure the cellophane tightly with duct tape. Even this isn't a sure bet; if your car uses an engine-bay mounted computer or has electrical components that cannot be insulated, then avoid steam cleaning. You still can reap most of the benefits of steam cleaning by turning your cleaner's temperature down to about 150 degrees and introducing a little bit of solvent to the mix. Pre-Treating Once you have everything wrapped up, spray your engine, suspension and chassis down with a quality degreaser such as DP Engine Degreaser or Engine Brite. Make sure to use one that is plastic and silicone safe, or you risk melting everything that isn't metal. Allow the engine degreaser to sit for the recommended period, and avoid using it in the top of your engine, where it might collect around fuel injectors and sensor equipment. Cleaning Steam cleaning is the easiest part of the process. This process is practically identical to using a pressure washer on any other part of your car. Keep in mind that part of steam cleaning's function is that the hot hater causes grease to melt so be patient. It might take a little more direct application than you would normally use to melt and remove grease and caked-on grime. Stay away from powerful chemicals and solvents in the pressure washer itself; commercial detergents available at your local hardware store will do a fine job. Simple Green, Kaboom! and Griots Garage Engine Cleaner are all popular options. You can use the more powerful cleaning agents on other under-body components, but take it easy on your engine. It is a good idea to dry all electrical connections and sensors with compressed air afterward. *Remoitinq a hubcap If you have an older car that still has hubcaps (instead of the wheel covers on more recent models), the first task in changing a tire — after you pull to the side of the road and finish banging the heel of your hand against the steering wheel in frustration — is to remove the hubcap of the injured tire. The following steps tell you how: 1. Use a screwdriver or the flat end of a lug wrench (see Figure 2-20 in Chapter 2) to pry off the hubcap. Just insert the point of the tool where the edge of the cap meets the wheel, and apply a little leverage (see Figure 1-3). The cap should pop off. You may have to do this in a couple of places; it's like prying the lid off a can of paint. . Chapter 1: Things Every Driver Should Know O 1 Figure 1-3: You can use a screwdriver to pry a hubcap loose. 2. Lay the cap on its back so that you can put the lug nuts into it to keep them from rolling away and heading for the nearest sewer. After you remove the hubcap, the next task is to loosen the lug nuts. Loosening the tug nuts 127

Most garages retighten them with a power tool, and unless you've done the job yourself by hand, they're going to be pretty hard to loosen. (Take my advice in Chapter 2 and buy a cross-shaft lug wrench. Figure 2-20 shows what one looks like.) Before you begin, you have to ascertain whether the lug nuts on the wheel you're working on are right-hand threaded or left-hand threaded. This isn't a "left-handed hammer" joke; the threads determine which way you turn the wrench. The lug nuts on the right side of a vehicle are always right-hand threaded, but the nuts on the left side may be left-hand threaded. Look at the lug nuts on your car; in the center of the lugs you should see an R, an L, or no letter at all: I V A lug with an R or with no letter is right-threaded. Turn it counterclockwise to loosen it. Audi . As a percent how much would the cost go up to add an additional car to a policy?
Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab. * V A lugs with an L is left-threaded. Turn it clockwise to loosen it. For the purposes of sanity, I'll assume that your car has right-threaded nuts. If you have a couple of lefties, just turn the wrench in the opposite direction as you follow these steps to loosen the lug nuts: 1. Find the end of the wrench that fits the lug nuts on your car, and fit it onto the first nut. Part I: Getting Started. Always work on lug nuts in rotation. That way, you won't forget to tighten any later. 2. Apply all your weight to the bar on the left. This starts turning the nut counterclockwise, which loosens it. If the nut has been put on with a power tool and you can't get it started, a piece of hollow pipe, fitted over that left-hand arm of the cross-shaft wrench, magically adds enough leverage to start the nut easily (see Figure 1-4). After you replace the nut yourself, this aid is no longer necessary. But remember, the longer the arms on your lug wrench, the more leverage you have. Figure 1-4: Audi . Don't remove the lug nuts completely; just get them loose enough so that you can remove them by hand after raising the car (a feat explained in an earlier section of this chapter, "The Safe Way to Use a Jack"). Changing the tire Once the vehicle is safely jacked up and the lug nuts are off, follow these instructions to change the tire: 1. Remove the spare from the trunk if you haven't already done so. Actually, it's easier to do this before jacking up the car. If you haven't checked your spare recently, keep your fingers crossed that it has enough air in it! Roll the spare to the scene of the action. 2. Grasp the flat tire with both hands and pull it toward you. The flat tire sits on the exposed bolts that the lug nuts screwed onto. As you pull the flat off, it should slide along the bolts until, suddenly, it . Chapter 1: Things Every Driver Should Know O 2 Audi .
